Hi, I’m Anderson Cooper. Welcome to the podcast. Lance Armstrong finally stops to lie about cheating. But they haven’t much he’s really willing to tell. Also the ridiculous. Let’s get started.16
This is U.S vice president Joe Biden, his task force has come up with a list of recommendations on addressing gun violence in the U.S. He's given that list to preisdent Obama, we should know sometime today what his next step will be. There are couple of different parts the president could take, one would be encouraging Congress to change laws like banning assault weapons or requiring background checks on buyers at gun shows. But not anyone in Congress would support that, and the National Rifle Association is working to prevent any new restrictions on gun. There are something else the president could do though, given executive order.17
"I'm putting forward a specific set of proposals based on the work of Joe's task force. And in the days ahead, I tend to use whatever way this office holds to make them reality."18
A really bizarre, unbelievable story is unfolding right now tonight, a story that garnered a lot of sympathy and admiration for a Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o all season long. It's apparently been exposed as a hoax by the website Deadspin.com. Now, Te'o, almost won the Heisman Trophy this season. What he was supposedly dealing with off the field got a huge amount of attention. The way that story went, on September 11th, in the span of just six hours, Te'o got word that both his grandmother and his girlfriend had died. But Te'o went out and led his team to a 20-3 upset of Michigan State, he made 12 tackles on that day.19
Fridays are awesome on Student News. On this particular Friday, we’re going to dip deep into the presidential inauguration. We’re going to look at how organizers getting ready for the event. We’re going to check out some of the history behind it as well. Monday’s forecast for Washing D.C.-high of 37 degrees, 30% chance of snow, near certain chance of inaugural pageantry. Technically, President Obama is going to be sworn into his second term on Sunday, January 2oth. The Constitution requires that. But Monday is when the public ceremony happens. Officials are expecting up to 8,000 people on the National Mall Monday. They’ll all be looking towards the U.S. Capitol where public swearing in will take place. Planning for a crowd that big can be tough for organizers.20
A big night tonight as Washington gets ready for an even bigger day tomorrow, as many as 800,000 people expected. Tomorrow morning, President Obama will make the journey from the White House to this end of Pennsylvania Avenue. Up here to Capitol Hill. Then at noon, on the capitol of west front, he will rest one hand on a pair of historic bibles, raised the other and ushering his second term. He is going to address the crowd, of course, and the nation and the world, be paraded, serenaded, honored with receptions and welcomed into the history books. But for the first time in a long time, the first time since the Ronald Reagan second inauguration, it will all be a formality. That is because it happens on the 21st. But law requires that presidents and vice presidents be sworn in on the 20th. So, today the 20th, they were in two quiet ceremonies they were.21
